American Liver Foundation Announces 2004 Research Award Winners

The American Liver Foundation recently announced the winners of its 2004 Research Awards program. Since it began funding research, the American Liver Foundation has awarded $14 million in grants. This year, in addition to the ongoing grants that are being funded, the ALF will be funding one new Hepatology Seed Grant, five new Liver Scholars, and eight new Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.

The winners in each category are:

Liver Scholars - $150,000

Bradley E. Aouizerat, PhD - University of California, San Francisco

Jody Lynn Baron, MD, PhD - University of California, San Francisco

Venkata Kakulavarapu, PhD - University of Miami School of Medicine

Georg M. Lauer, MD, PhD - Massachusetts General Hospital

Natalie J. Torok, MD - University of California, Davis

Hepatology Seed Grantee - $100,000

Konstantinos Lazaridis, MD - Mayo Clinic and Foundation

Postdoctoral Research Fellows - $10,000

Rachel P. Baden, MD - Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Kiran M. Bambha, MD - Mayo Clinic and Foundation

Yan Guo, PhD - Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Julius Clemence Hafalla, PhD - New York University School of Medicine

Timothy T. Kuo, MD - Brigham and Women's Hospital

Yang Lu, MD, PhD - Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Amelia Mazzone, PhD - Mayo Medical School

Masayuki Uemura, MD, PhD - University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
