Alaska Conservation Foundation Named Outstanding Foundation in Philanthropy

The Alaska Conservation Foundation (ACF) was named the 2002 Outstanding Foundation in Philanthropy by the Alaska Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). AFP awards, presented in conjunction with National Philanthropy Day, recognize outstanding individuals, corporations, businesses, and foundations that have provided strong leadership and service within Alaska's non-profit sector.

ACF's grantmaking supports exceptional conservation and sustainable community work through a variety of grantmaking programs.

Founded in 1980 by Denny Wilcher, Celia Hunter and others, ACF is the major philanthropic link between committed donors and Alaska's conservation community. ACF is dedicated to funding grassroots organizations in their efforts to protect and enhance Alaska's ecosystems and provide sustainable livelihoods among Alaska's communities and peoples. Since 1980, ACF has awarded over $19 million in grants to over 200 organizations to help support critical conservation efforts across the state.

"ACF is deeply honored by this award. Together with our grantees, we are dedicated to protecting and enhancing Alaska's communities and environment. Through funding outstanding efforts, we have worked hard to insure that current and future generations of Alaskans will enjoy clean air, clean water, open spaces, wildlife, healthy communities, and sustainable economies. We thank the Alaska Chapter of AFP for this important award, and we applaud everything AFP is doing to increase philanthropy in Alaska," noted Deborah L. Williams, ACF's executive director.

ACF and other awardees will be honored at a luncheon hosted by the Association on November 7.
