The Alaska Conservation Foundation (ACF) seeks nominations of high school seniors for the Wilcher Award for Outstanding High School Senior. This award acknowledges students who have made significant contributions toward conservation issues or toward solving environmental problems in their communities.

Nominees should exhibit a concern for Alaska's environment through their school and extra-curricular activities. The award recognizes service rather than academic achievement and is accompanied by a $1,500 prize. Though the award is not a scholarship, ACF encourages students to use the award funds to further their education.

"Young people in Alaska are some of our greatest resources in protecting the future of our environment. We seek to recognize the best and brightest young conservationists with this award," said Deborah L. Williams, executive director of ACF.

Founded in 1980, ACF is dedicated to funding grassroots organizations in their efforts to protect and enhance Alaska's ecosystems. Since 1980, ACF has awarded over $19 million in grants to over 200 organizations to help support critical conservation efforts in Alaska. ACF's annual awards recognize exceptional individuals involved in conservation work, and are prestigious awards in Alaska's conservation community.

Award nominations are due March 14. Nomination forms are available on the web at: www.akcf.org/awards_how.htm. Students must submit a 500-word essay on how the award funds would be spent if he or she were chosen for the award. For more details, call Julie Jessen at (907) 276-1917.
