SEATTLE – U.S. Representative Jay Inslee visited World Concern's supply collection warehouse in Lynnwood on October 8 for a briefing on the Afghanistan crisis and a tour of the facility.

During the tour, Inslee met with World Concern President Paul Kennel, Assistant to the President David Andrianoff and Relief Director Kelly Miller for a discussion on humanitarian needs and issues in Afghanistan and bordering countries. Kennel, Miller and Andrianoff provided a 20 year perspective on relief and community development work in the region and the changes they had seen due to recent events.

World Concern arranged to keep Inslee's office informed with details of their ongoing work in northern Afghanistan and Tajikistan. In addition, Miller agreed to provide regular updates during his trip to those countries planned for October 15.

The initial phase of World Concern's expanded relief effort is in progress and involves feeding and providing winter stores of flour, beans, and oil to 75,000 people before winter sets into this harsh mountainous region. Also included in phase one is the collection of 15,000 Emergency SHARE Kits that will be shipped to Tajikistan and distributed to Afghan refugees. As more areas are secured and roads open for travel, World Concern will broaden its reach to serve more Afghan families in crisis.
