Rep. Inslee Volunteers Time to Help Afghan RefugeesWorld Concern SEATTLE – U.S. Representative Jay Inslee is scheduled to visit Seattle-based relief and development organization World Concern's gift-in-kind warehouse in Lynnwood on October 8 at 10:00 a.m. The visit will consist of a tour of the facility followed by Inslee joining volunteers to assemble emergency SHARE Kits for refugees. Representative Inslee plans to discuss humanitarian need and issues in Afghanistan and surrounding countries with World Concern President Paul Kennel, Assistant to the President David Andrianoff and Relief Director Kelly Miller. World Concern has worked in many areas of Afghanistan for 20 years, until recent events temporarily shut down the majority of the projects. Currently, World Concern is expanding their relief efforts with refugees in the surrounding countries and internally displaced people in northern Afghanistan. World Concern is partnering with groups throughout the northwest to collect 15,000 SHARE Kits by October 21, which will fill an entire container bound for Tajikistan. The SHARE Kits are part of a larger relief program that includes providing food, shelter, medical supplies and blankets to Afghan refugees and families in northern Afghanistan. Cash donations and volunteers are also critically needed to expand this effort.
