World Concern and Partners Provide Relief in PeruWorld Concern SEATTLE, WA – World Concern's Director of Relief, Kelly Miller, announced today that World Concern will join local partners in Peru to provide immediate assistance in the rebuilding of stable homes to victims of Peru's latest series of earthquakes and tsunamis. As residents in southern Peru cope with fearful nights in the frigid winter cold, the reported death toll rose today to 102. According to one partner based in Puno, "There is much tension in the air created, in large part, by the aftershocks that still continue. Many are afraid that a bigger quake could follow. Those living along the beaches fear tidal waves. Monday's news reported that there are at least 70,000 homeless, and that in the city of Moquegua alone eighty percent of the buildings are now unsafe. Peruvian authorities are trying to calm people down. People here are in need of funds for rebuilding and prayer for comfort and peace." World Concern has been involved in rural development in southern Peru since 1996, and is now accepting cash donations for Peru earthquake relief. Gifts should be sent to World Concern, Peru Earthquake Response, 19303 Fremont Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98133 or please call (800) 755-5022 for more information.
