World Concern Responds to Peru EarthquakeWorld Concern SEATTLE, WA – Seattle-based, Christian relief and development organization World Concern is responding with relief aid to Arequipa, Peru and the surrounding areas after a 7.9 magnitude quake left 71 people dead and thousands injured and homeless. Mr. Kelly Miller, World Concern's Director of Relief and Corporate Services, issued a statement this morning saying, "At this point, understanding the full extent of the damage to outlying areas is critical. Time is of the essence to reach those who haven't received aid and provide the needed help to reduce human suffering from this disaster." The approximately 10,000 Peruvians left homeless are struggling to find shelter in near freezing temperatures. Currently, the financial need is greatest for tents, food, medicine and rebuilding costs. World Concern, in partnership with the Friend's Church, has been involved in rural development in Puno, Peru, just 200 km from Arequipa, since 1996. World Concern is now accepting cash donations for Peru earthquake relief. Gifts should be sent to World Concern, Peru Earthquake Response, 19303 Fremont Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98133 or please call (800) 755-5022 for more information.
