Help Clothe the World

Seattle, WA – World Concern, in partnership with KIRO-7 TV, Spirit 105.3 FM, Praise 106.5 FM, KCIS AM, and the NW Christian Times, kicks-off its Clothes for the World campaign on Saturday, April 21, 2001. The current supply of donated clothing is very low. Donations are needed immediately, as are volunteers to help sort and box the items for shipment.

Urgent needs are for: the rural poor in Mongolia who are suffering from the worst winter in 50 years, Afghan refugees in Tajikistan, displaced people in Honduras, Burmese refugees living on the Thailand border, and many others in countries such as Bosnia and Uzbekistan.

For the kick-off, the public is encouraged to bring the following items to the World Concern processing center located at 19802 Highway 99 in Lynnwood on Saturday, April 21st from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

- New or good used men's, women's, youth, and especially children's clothing of all types.
- Only new underwear and socks.
- New or good used shoes.
- New or good used blankets, quilts, sheets, and towels.
- Please, NO household items.

The kick-off day goal is to collect 50,000 pounds of clothing, which is double the 25,000 pounds received last year, and World Concern hopes to collect a total of 75,000 pounds by the campaign end date of May 31st. After the Saturday kick-off, donations may be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or Saturday mornings through May 26th from nine to noon.

Individuals and groups of eight or more can volunteer Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Groups can also volunteer Tuesday evenings, 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM by appointment only.
