Statement from Franklin Graham: Response to Terrorism, September 11, 2001Samaritan's Purse This is a time for all Americans to pray for and support the thousands of victims, their families, and loved ones who have been affected by the tragic events of September 11. Over many years, I have seen firsthand the human suffering caused by terrorism and war in places like the Middle East and Afghanistan. I was at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, the day after it was bombed, and in Beirut, Lebanon, just before and just after the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks. We have also experienced the effects as our own Samaritan's Purse hospital in Sudan has been bombed. I am deeply saddened that these atrocities have reached our own American soil in such a devastating and despicable way. These horrors remind us how precious life is and how important it is to be spiritually ready to stand before and give account to Almighty God. If we confess our sins and are willing to repent and by faith receive the Lord Jesus Christ into our hearts and lives, we know that God will forgive us and cleanse us. My prayer is that the people of this nation will turn their eyes and hearts to the Lord and seek His wisdom and protection. Samaritan's Purse stands by ready to mobilize our resources to aid in this tragedy if called upon. May all Americans pray for our President and government leaders, that God would guide and direct them as they lead our nation through this crisis. Franklin Graham serves as president of international relief organization Samaritan's Purse, and first vice-chairman and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
