American Kidney Fund Named by Physician Group as One of Top Ten Best Health CharitiesAmerican Kidney Fund The American Kidney Fund (AKF) has been named by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) as one of the Top Ten Best Health Charities. All charities on the list carry the "Humane Charity Seal of Approval" designated by a coalition of physicians and organizations concerned about animal testing. PCRM selects organizations that offer much-needed services, without offending contributors' ethics by funding or conducting animal tests. "The American Kidney Fund's mission is to provide direct assistance to needy kidney patients, their families and caregivers," said AKF Communications Director Sandra Palmer. She added, "Our clinical science fellowships do not support research that relies on animal testing. We know that a number of surveys indicate that most Americans would prefer giving to cruelty-free charities and we are pleased that our mission happens to dovetail nicely with that of the PCRM." In addition to the PCRM honor, the American Kidney Fund recently received the top rating (4 stars, "Excellent") from Charity Navigator (See related story on our web site by clicking here), a non-profit organization designed to help contributors make more informed giving decisions. Charity Navigator noted that AKF spends 90 cents of every dollar on direct patient aid, a key reason for its best rating.
