For the second consecutive year, the American Kidney Fund has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, an independent national non-profit organization that evaluates charities' financial health. The Charity Navigator website provides evaluations of more than 1,750 of America's charities, at no cost to the public, to help contributors make intelligent giving decisions. The American Kidney Fund's 4-star (out of a possible 4 stars), "Exceptional" rating means that AKF exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in the database.

AKF Executive Director Karen Sendelback noted, "We are extremely proud of our rating, and we hope that as people make their end-of-the-year charitable donations, they will look to organizations that are fiscally responsible. AKF spends nearly 92 cents of every dollar on program expenses - programs that serve needy kidney patients, their families, and their caregivers."

In a related story, AKF was also just named one of the Top Ten Charities in the nation by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
