The American Kidney Fund (AKF) is well ahead of the Bush Administration's proposal to offer Medicare patients discount pharmacy cards. AKF's new Discount Pharmacy Card Program stands apart from those of pharmaceutical and other companies, (as well as the proposed Medicare card) because AKF is a nonprofit organization. A portion of the proceeds from the new program directly supports AKF's patient aid programs.

"For 30 years, AKF has helped thousands of kidney patients pay for prescription drugs. Now, we have found a way to offer anyone with a chronic disease or condition savings of up to 30% on their required prescription and over-the-counter medications," stated AKF Executive Director Karen Sendelback.

AKF Senior Director of Patient Services, Carol Lynn Halal noted, "By working with PRxN Pharmacy Network, we do not require a membership fee or any obligation whatsoever."

Consumers may compare AKF's mail order pharmacy prices with those they are already paying, by calling the toll-free number (1-800-342-5779), or by going online to www.prxn.com. To receive the discount pricing, consumers must mention AKF's group number (Group Number AKF - 002). Once the first order is placed, the free Discount Pharmacy Card is sent to the consumer.

Sendelback concluded, "We hope our new pharmacy card helps provide relief to all kidney patients, as well as AKF's friends and supporters."
