Founder's Day Activities at Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve

The staff of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve invite you to join them for a Founder's Day celebration: Friday, August 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Founder's Day will commemorate the 84th anniversary of the founding of the National Park Service. Special events for the day include a 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-3 p.m. viewing of the historic ranching equipment housed on the third floor of the 1881 barn. This area has never been opened to the public until now.

Refreshments will be provided by the National Park Trust and discounts on books and apparel items at the National Park Trust's Z Bar Bookstore.

Regular activities include guided tours of the historic limestone mansion offered hourly form 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Prairie bus tours are available at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Bus tours have limited space available, and reservations are recommended.

The National Park Service was established on August 25, 1916 to manage our uniquely American national park system sites and "to provide for the enjoyment for the same in such a manner...as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." The 379 units of this system include a variety of areas such as parks, preserves, historic sites, monuments, seashores, long distance trails, battlefields, and recreational areas.

The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is a unique partnership between the National Park Trust, a private non-profit organization who owns the land, and the National Park Service, who will serve as the primary managing agency.
