American Jewish Committee Appalled By Gruesome Murder of U.S. Reporter

The American Jewish Committee today expressed profound grief over the confirmed murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped in Pakistan on January 23 by radical Islamic terrorists and then brutally murdered.

"Our hearts go out to Daniel Pearl's family, and we mourn their loss," said the American Jewish Committee.

"Singling out an American reporter – a respected journalist whose identity as a Jew was repeatedly emphasized by his killers – reveals the depths of horror that followers of extremist Islam have reached in the Middle East and around the world as they pursue their holy war against Americans, against Western civilization, and against all Jews," the American Jewish Committee said.

"The murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, whose career was devoted to a quest for truth and understanding between peoples, is a tragedy for all who share that commitment – indeed, for all Americans."
