AJC Chairs Meeting with Greek Prime MinisterAmerican Jewish Committee A delegation of American Jewish leaders, assembled and chaired by the American Jewish Committee, met with Prime Minister Costas Simitis of Greece at Blair House today, as the minister concluded a visit to Washington that featured talks with President Bush and senior U.S. officials. Led by Ambassador Alfred Moses, AJC National Advisory Council Chair, the delegation engaged the Prime Minister – and Foreign Minister George Papandreou – in a wide-ranging discussion that included expressions of mutual support in the war against international terrorism and an examination of Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East issues. AJC praised the Prime Minister for advocating stronger ties between Greece and Israel. Other issues of concern to the Greek Jewish community were raised with the Minister and fully discussed. AJC maintains close contact with the Greek government on issues of mutual concern, and with the Greek Jewish community. Also participating in the one-hour meeting were Greek American leaders Andrew Athens and Andrew Manatos, longtime partners of AJC in inter-ethnic cooperation. Representatives of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the Anti-Defamation League, B'nai B'rith, and the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs, also participated in the meeting.
