The American Jewish Committee today contributed $50,000 to the World Trade Center School Relief Fund to help New York City schoolchildren affected by the September 11 terror attacks.

"Since September 11 we have been especially concerned about the youngest New Yorkers," said Robert Goodkind, chairman of AJC's Board of Governors. "It is our hope that these funds will be used to provide students with the counseling and support they need during this difficult period."

The contribution, presented to Schools Chancellor Harold Levy, comes from the American Jewish Committee 911 Fund.

"Today's contribution to the School Relief Fund is in keeping with our deeply held conviction that there is no task more urgent than to ensure that young people are given a good education," wrote AJC President Harold Tanner and Executive Director David A. Harris in a letter to Chancellor Levy. "The American Jewish Committee has been a longstanding and engaged advocate for our nation's public schools and its students."

AJC also has contributed $10,000 to help rebuild St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and $50,000 to the New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund to assist the families and dependants of the victims of the September 11 tragedy.
