American Jewish Committee Brings Senior Israeli Police to Meet Commissioner Kerik, Visit Ground ZeroAmerican Jewish Committee A delegation of senior Israeli police officers, on an American Jewish Committee-sponsored visit to the United States this week, met today with New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, and then visited "Ground Zero" to pay their respects to the fallen in the September 11 terror attacks. Shulamit Bahat, Associate Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee, presented Commissioner Kerik with a special gift with the inscription: "Presented by the American Jewish Committee to Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik with deepest gratitude for the noble service and heroism of the men and women of the New York City Police Department and for his leadership in a time of peril for the city we love." After the meeting at One Police Plaza, the delegation visited Ground Zero, where General Uri Bar-Lev, head of the delegation, said: "We stand here today before the silent memorial, a reminder to all, how far is the reach of the arm of terror. An arm that does not discriminate between good and evil, and whose only goal is destruction, murder, and the causing of suffering unto others." The Israeli delegation's visit to New York is part of a 10-day educational seminar sponsored by the American Jewish Committee that was scheduled before last month's terror attacks. In addition to New York, the Israeli delegation also is visiting Washington, D.C., Boston and Boca Raton, Florida, and meeting with senior police and other local officials.
