Thanks to Scandinavia Now An Institute of American Jewish CommitteeAmerican Jewish Committee The American Jewish Committee's efforts to further memory of the Holocaust and to remember those who rescued Jews has been given a boost with the full incorporation of Thanks To Scandinavia as an institute of the AJC. Thanks To Scandinavia, founded in 1963, honors the unique roles of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in rescuing Jews during the Second World War. The educational organization awards annually scholarships totaling $250,000 to Scandinavian students and teachers for study at universities and medical centers in the United States as well as in Israel and Scandinavia. The American Jewish Committee has long been involved in Holocaust-related issues, from conducting and publishing groundbreaking research and promoting Holocaust education around the world, to advocating on behalf of survivors and recognizing rescuers. Last August AJC entered into a collaborative association with TTS to join in educational projects. At the time TTS moved its offices to AJC Headquarters, and Rebecca Neuwirth was appointed executive director, launching the process of incorporating TTS as an AJC institute. Since its founding 37 years ago by the late entertainer Victor Borge and New York attorney Richard Netter, Thanks To Scandinavia has spearheaded recognition of the heroism and humanity of the people, churches and governments of Scandinavian countries in saving many of their Jewish compatriots from the horrors of the Nazis. The realization that it is possible for the righteous to stand against evil, TTS believes, must be publicized, recognized and preserved as a moral guidepost and standard of human behavior for all time. Mr. Netter will continue to serve as President of Thanks To Scandinavia.
