American Jewish Committee Criticizes Farrakhan's Remarks on LiebermanAmerican Jewish Committee The American Jewish Committee today sharply criticized Louis Farrakhan's questioning of Senator Joseph Lieberman's vice presidential candidacy. "It is simply obscene that at the beginning of the 21st century anyone could possibly suggest that a candidate for elected office might have conflicting loyalties because he is Jewish," said Bruce M. Ramer, president of the American Jewish Committee. "We had believed that such specious accusations had ended decades ago." Mr. Ramer added: "Americans trace their roots to many places around the world, and certainly one would not expect questions of divided loyalty to be raised." Condemning Mr. Farrakhan's remarks yesterday about Senator Lieberman, Mr. Ramer said: "Those who would dare suggest that American Jews have divided loyalty because of the State of Israel have totally ignored the facts of the past 52 years, which have repeatedly and consistently proven the contrary."
