Our Hearts Go Out to Convicted Jews in Iran

The American Jewish Committee this morning urged the international community to use every means possible to voice outrage over the unconscionable conviction of 10 Jews in Iran.

David A. Harris, Executive Director of the American Jewish Committee, issued the following statement at 3:30 a.m. today:

"The verdict comes as little surprise in a show trial of this kind. While we welcome the acquittal of three of the 13 Iranian Jews, no one should be hoodwinked by Iran's judicial system.

"There was no justice in the case of the 10 Iranian Jews who were convicted. From the start of this sordid affair, which began with their arrests well over a year ago, to today's unconscionable verdicts, this case has violated virtually every norm of law and justice.

"We call on the international community to continue to voice its outrage to Iranian authorities in every way possible.

"Our hearts go out to the 10 convicted Jews and to their families. The struggle for their release will go on as will our everlasting concern for the safety and security of the Jewish community in Iran."
