AJC Donates $10,000 To Aid Lebanese Refugees In IsraelAmerican Jewish Committee The American Jewish Committee today donated $10,000 to provide humanitarian assistance to Lebanese refugees who arrived in northern Israel this week. The contribution comes from AJC's Harriet and Robert Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund, which was established by the Heilbrunn family to support humanitarian relief through the American Jewish Committee. "It is our moral imperative to help the thousands of Lebanese, including members of the disbanded South Lebanon Army, who have sought refuge in Israel in the wake of Israel's courageous and laudable withdrawal from the security zone this week," said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris. The AJC contribution is being donated to Na'amat USA, The Women's Labor Zionist Organization of America, which is providing assistance to the more than 6,000 refugees who entered Israel. Since its establishment in 1998, AJC's Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund has supported relief efforts for Turkish earthquake victims, including building a school; substantial aid to Muslim refugees from Kosovo; repairing three California synagogues damaged by arsonists; and, aid to victims of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Mitch in Central America.
