The American Jewish Committee presented its Congressional Leadership Award to Senator Connie Mack (R-FL) this week, honoring the Senator for his leadership in support of Israel, international religious liberty, and vigorous efforts to combat terrorism.

"I will hold this award close to my heart," said Senator Mack. "I commend the American Jewish Committee for its work to remind us in this country about how actions in the Middle East will impact our lives, our nation and those struggling for freedom around the world."

Leonard Greenberg, an Honorary Vice President of AJC and Florida resident, who presented the award during AJC's 94th Annual Meeting this week, said: Senator Mack has accumulated an outstanding record of accomplishment championing causes we hold dear."

Those issues include attaining equal status for Israel in the UN, stemming the flow of Russian missile technology to Iran, condemning the vitriolic anti-Semitism contained in Palestinian media and school books, taking action against terrorists and state sponsors of terrorism, and promoting international religious freedom.

Senator Mack praised AJC for its advocacy leadership efforts on behalf of legislative initiatives to promote religious freedom and combat terrorism.

"The Religious Freedom Act would not have become law were it not for the American Jewish Committee's work, for your knowledge and your wisdom," said Senator Mack, who was a lead cosponsor of the International Religious Freedom Act, enacted on the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Last October, Senator Mack became the lead Senate Republican sponsor of the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act.

Senator Mack has announced that he will retire from the United States Senate after Congress adjourns in October.

"We are grateful for your many years of service, and we will remember you for your illustrious record in support of Israel and religious freedom the world over, and for your staunch opposition to the pernicious threat of international terrorism," said Mr. Greenberg.
