American Jewish Committee Urges Support For Wye River Accord Aid In Letters To Congress, Washington Post AdAmerican Jewish Committee The American Jewish Committee, in letters to each member of Congress, today urged support for the $1.8 billion in foreign aid to Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority to implement the year-old Wye River peace accord. "Our support for the Wye River Accord funds flows from our conviction that peace in the Middle East – and peace and stability in other vital regions – is in America's national interest," wrote AJC President Bruce M. Ramer and Executive Director David A. Harris in the letter. "The Wye River funds aid implementation of an agreement that has re-energized Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and renewed hope for a broader peace." The letter was reprinted in a quarter-page ad in today's Washington Post under the headline "Wye now." AJC "recognizes the competition for FY 2000 dollars is intense," the letter states. "At the same time, we remain broadly committed to the principle of appropriate investment in American leadership in world affairs and are troubled by recent steps in Congress to shrink international affairs funding."
