The American Jewish Committee today donated $25,000 to aid relief efforts in Turkey following the devastating earthquake in the western part of the country.

"Our heart is with the people of Turkey, " said Bruce M. Ramer, president of the American Jewish Committee, in announcing the grant. Letters of sympathy have been sent to Turkish diplomatic representatives in the United States, as well as to the Jewish community in Turkey.

The AJC contribution came from the Harriet and Robert Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund, which was established by the Heilbrunn family to support humanitarian relief through the American Jewish Committee.

The Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund most recently has supported relief efforts for Muslim refugees from Kosovo. Previous grants have gone to aid victims of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Mitch in Central America.
