American Jewish Committee Donates $30,000 To Repair Three Synagogues Damaged By ArsonAmerican Jewish Committee The American Jewish Committee today donated $30,000 to three California synagogues damaged last Friday by arsonists. "We are deeply saddened by these outrageous assaults on Jews and hope that the perpetrators of these anti-Semitic crimes will be brought to justice soon," said AJC President Bruce M. Ramer. "At the same time, we are moved to fulfill the words of Nehamiah, 'Let us rise up and rebuild,' and thus we are pleased to aid in repairing the three synagogues," he said. Temple B'nai Israel and the Knesset Israel Torah Center, in Sacramento, Calif., and Temple Beth Shalom, in Carmichael, Calif., each received $10,000 from the AJC. The contributions came in part from the Harriet and Robert Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund, which was established by the Heilbrunn family to support humanitarian relief through the American Jewish Committee. The Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund most recently has supported relief efforts for Kosovo refugees. Previous grants have gone to aid victims of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Mitch in Central America.
