AJC Applauds Knesset Action On Israeli Extradition Law

The American Jewish Committee applauds the recent action of the Israeli Knesset that brings Israeli extradition law into conformance with international extradition treaties.

The Knesset's passage of a law allowing for the extradition of Israeli citizens who perpetrate crimes in other countries is a positive development in the wake of the troubling case of Samuel Sheinbein, the Maryland teenager who sought refuge in Israel from prosecution on a murder charge in the United States.

The Knesset's wise decision affirms the principle that Israel was never meant to be a safe haven for criminals.
