The American Jewish Committee is outraged by the bombing of the gravesite of Heinz Galinksi, the former leader of the country's Jewish community.

"This latest act of violence is an appalling attack on all German Jews," said David A. Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee. "The expeditious apprehension and prosecution of those responsible would send a clear message that such violence will not be tolerated."

The American Jewish Committee's Berlin office, opened earlier this year, has a close working relationship with the German government, German civic and political institutions, and the Jewish community in Germany.

AJC President Bruce M. Ramer and Harris visited Germany earlier this month, the first American Jewish delegation to meet with senior ministers in the newly elected government of Gerhard Schroeder. The activity of right-wing extremists was among the topics discussed in two days of meetings.
