American Jewish Committee Lauds U.S. Government Report On Neutral Nations' Trade With NazisAmerican Jewish Committee Calls For National Commissions In Each Country To Assist In Quest For Justice And Truth The American Jewish Committee lauds the U.S. Government report released today on the trade relationship of neutral nations with the Nazis during and after World War II, the use of looted gold, and the acceptance of refugees. This report, the second to examine Allied wartime dealings with Nazi Germany, and the first to focus on neutrals other than Switzerland, is another critical step on the road to uncovering the truths essential in the pursuit of justice and in our attempt to shed further light on this century's darkest hour. The AJC applauds the dedicated efforts of U.S. Under Secretary of State Stuart Eizenstat and his expert team assembled from numerous government agencies who have worked tirelessly to produce such voluminous and credible documentation. We urge each of the countries highlighted in both reports, including the United States, to publicly accept full responsibility for both its actions and inactions. We urge those nations that have not yet established national commissions to do so and use this information to help investigate and confront their countries' roles during and after World War II and, where appropriate, provide just restitution to Holocaust survivors and the rightful heirs of Holocaust victims.
