The American Jewish Committee strongly denounces today's brutal terrorist attack outside Luxor, Egypt, which has left more than 60 people, mostly tourists, dead and injured. To the victims of this attack and to their families we extend our deepest sympathy.

This latest gun-battle, reportedly carried out by Islamic militants, follows the September 18 bombing outside the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, which left nine tourists dead and more than a dozen others wounded, and too many other such tragic incidents in Egypt..

Sadly, all moderate states in the region remain vulnerable to the carnage and barbarism that such extremism produces. Civilized nations must work together to effectively combat terrorism wherever it arises. We must redouble our efforts to eliminate the ideologies of hate and violence that threaten peace, security, stability and prosperity in the Middle East.
