AJCommittee Hails Verdict Against Priebke And HassAmerican Jewish Committee Message To Remaining Nazi War Criminals: "The Pursuit Of Justice For The Victims Of Nazi Atrocities And Their Families Will Not Be Tempered By The Passage Of Time" The American Jewish Committee is gratified that justice has been served, however belatedly, in the cases of Erich Priebke and Karl Hass, two fugitive Nazi SS officers responsible for the 1944 executions of 335 Italian men and boys at the Ardeatine Caves. Both men, sentenced to jail by an Italian military court, were convicted of crimes against humanity for which there is no statute of limitations. Such a verdict also sends a clear message to those still alive who perpetrated these unimaginably evil crimes more than half a century ago: The pursuit of justice for the victims of Nazi atrocities and their families will not be tempered by the passage of time.
