American Jewish Committee Mourns Death Of Former Israeli President Chaim HerzogAmerican Jewish Committee The American Jewish Committee today issued the following statement: The American Jewish Committee is saddened by the death of former Israeli President Chaim Herzog. We join with the people of Israel in mourning this elder statesman, courageous soldier and distinguished historian. Chaim Herzog served Israel with honor in numerous capacities, including as Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations where he led the campaign for repeal of the odious "Zionism equals racism resolution," and later as Israel's longest serving president. During his ten-year presidency, he traveled extensively and helped shape a more positive and balanced image for the Jewish State throughout the world. The Jewish people have lost a loyal and treasured friend, and a valued spokesman for Zionism, Israel and peace.
