The American Jewish Committee is shocked and deeply saddened over the shooting by a Jordanian soldier of Israeli junior high school girls visiting the Israeli-Jordanian border. His act of madness and wanton bloodshed has left seven innocent children dead and six others wounded. We send our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of the victims and wish those now in the hospital a swift and complete recovery.

We fully expect that this terrorist will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Such a heinous act, perpetrated against the most innocent and most defenseless, only serves to remind us how fragile and volatile the Middle East remains.
