NCADD Board of Directors Adopts Charitable Choice Statement

The Board of Directors adopted a policy statement on so-called "Charitable Choice" amendments that often include provisions that would allow religious providers to receive federal funds (both directly and through states) and specify that neither the Federal nor State government can require the religious organization to alter its form of internal governance, nor remove religious art, icons, scripture, or other symbols. Legislation with this type of language has been introduced in the three most recent sessions of Congress, and is expected to be introduced again, especially in light of President Bush's newly established Office of Faith-Based Programs.

The new policy statement is avaiable on the NCADD website www.ncadd.org, under the Advocacy section of the Programs category. Additional information of previous versions of the charitable choice legislation is also in the Advocacy section.
