The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD) today (December 1, 2000) relaunched its website at www.ncadd.org with new architecture that emphasizes speed and simplicity for an average of 15,000 monthly visitors as well as providing them with instant access to nearly 100 local Affiliates around the country.

"Information and referral have long been a core element of NCADD's mission and our new website makes it easier than ever before for internet users to find organizations that are fighting the stigma and disease of alcoholism and other drug addictions in their communities," observed Stacia Murphy, NCADD president. "And because so many of our Affiliates already have established reciprocal links with us, we anticipate that our website will become a powerful constituency building tool at both the local and national levels."

Other new features of the website will include "Ask Dr. Bob," an interactive area in which visitors can pose questions to Robert M. Morse, MD the chair of NCADD's medical/scientific committee and former director of addictive disorders at the Mayo Clinic. Questions will be screened for general relevance and archived to create a body of authoritative and readily accessible information. Visitors also will also be able to view and order NCADD's publications on-line for the first time using their credit cards on a secure server.

Organized into nine general sections, the website provides a comprehensive guide to NCADD's programs and services, an organizational history and links to dozens of other private organizations and government agencies working to prevent and treat alcoholism and other drug addictions. The Facts section, the most frequently accessed area of NCADD's original website, has been expanded to include interviews with medical/scientific experts on a variety of subjects including relapse, dual diagnosis and the use of pharmacology in addiction treatment.

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. fights the stigma and the disease of alcoholism and other drug addictions. Founded in 1944 by Marty Mann, the first woman to find long-term sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous, NCADD provides education, information, help and hope to the public. It advocates prevention, intervention and treatment through offices in New York and Washington, and a nationwide network of Affiliates.
