Prevention & Education Awards Presented During Conference of AffiliatesNational Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence The Santa Barbara Affiliate received a meritorious award for its "Fighting Back" School-Based Mentoring Program during the 1998 Conference of Affiliates in Santa Barbara. Commendation awards were presented to the Nebraska State Affiliate for its "All Stars" program and to the Somerset, NJ Affiliate for its "Choke On Smoke" CD-ROM. "All the entries this year met the high standards set by Father James Royce when he began our recognition program more than 20 years ago," observed Barry K. Kistner, executive director of the Ann Arbor Affiliate, who chaired this year's prevention & education awards committee. "He would have been particularly pleased to see how computer technology is being used to carry the traditional prevention message into the future." The NCADD Prevention and Education Awards Program began in 1977 and now is judged by a panel of NCADD Affiliate executive directors. All NCADD Affiliates are eligible to apply; entries are judged according to background and significance; goals and objectives; activities and approaches; program management; coordination; ease of replication; and evaluation.
