Statement of NCADD In Support of Senator Byrd's Efforts to Eliminate the Tax Deductibility of Alcohol Advertising

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence strongly supports Senator Robert Byrd's efforts to eliminate the tax deductibility of alcohol advertising. Taxpayers are subsidizing the makers of a product that is the third leading cause of preventable death and creates incalculable pain and suffering for families and young people. This amendment rectifies this injustice.

Senator Byrd's amendment will direct funds to programs that are designed to reduce alcohol-related problems. This would include, in part, counter-advertisements and public education services that would provide vital information to the American public, particularly young people.
