Nugent To Receive National Arbor Day Foundation Celebration AwardNational Arbor Day Foundation Nebraska City, Neb., April 12, 1999--Ted Nugent, Jackson, Michigan, will receive one of three 1999 Arbor Day Celebration Awards from The National Arbor Day Foundation at a special awards ceremony to be held here on Saturday, May 1. The award honors those who best represent the spirit of the tree planters' holiday. Nugent is a well known environmentalist as well as a rock musician who has sold 30 million albums. In encouraging tree planting and environmental stewardship, he gives more than 10,000 trees to Detroit area schools each year and promotes Arbor Day on his Detroit-based radio show. In addition, each Arbor Day he invites children, parents, and teachers to his ranch for a day of learning through a nature walk and hands-on tree planting experience. Nugent will attend the 27th annual National Arbor Day Foundation Awards banquet to receive the award. The ceremony is part of the Arbor Day weekend celebration held in Nebraska City from April 30-May 2. Others being honored this year include Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, winner of the J. Sterling Morton Award for his leadership in revitalizing Chicago's urban forest; and the two other winners of 1999 Celebration Awards, the First Arbor Day Celebration of the City of DeKalb, Illinois, and the Missouri Department of Conservation's cross-curricular "Arbor Week Activity Guide," part of a program that reaches 130,000 students and teachers each year. The National Arbor Day Foundation is a nonprofit education organization dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
