NARSAD to Honor Nobel Laureates and Present Awards for Outstanding Research at Annual Dinner Benefit

(Great Neck, NY. September 2001). The National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD) will honor the winners of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Medicine at its annual black-tie benefit on Friday, October 12th, at the Pierre Hotel, Fifth Avenue and 61st Street, Manhattan. Drs. Arvid Carlsson, Paul Greengard and Eric Kandel shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine for research that focused on the brain and led to the development of new drugs to treat neurological and psychiatric diseases.

At the event, NARSAD will also award its annual prizes for outstanding research achievement when it presents the Lieber Prize for Schizophrenia Research, the Nola Maddox Falcone Prize for Affective Disorders Research and the Ruane Prize for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Research. Four exceptional scientists chosen from leading research institutions nationwide will receive these prestigious awards.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit NARSAD, the largest not-for-profit, donor-supported organization raising and distributing funds for psychiatric research.
