Duke Trustees OK New Research Building
Duke University Medical Center | The Duke University Board of Trustees gave the go-ahead to a construction project that woud create a second Medical Science Research Building. The 165,000-square-foot medical science building will support the growing need for research space.

Willett Named Chair of Radiation Oncology at Duke
Duke University Medical Center | Christopher G. Willett, M.D., a specialist in gastrointestinal cancers, has been named chair of the department of radiation oncology at Duke University Medical Center. He will assume his new duties March 1, 2004.

$2.7 Million to Predict Safety and Effectiveness of Blood Thinners
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis | To determine how clinical and genetic factors predict a patient's response to therapy, a multi-disciplinary team led by Washington University researchers has received a four-year, $2.7 million grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Moderate alcohol use may be associated with brain shrinkage
American Heart Association | Consuming low to moderate amounts of alcohol may be linked to decreased brain size in middle-aged adults, according to a new study. It also showed that low to moderate alcohol intake did not lower their stroke risk, as some previous studies found.
